The 20-tag cap and duplicates can hide new tags.
A task shows a product as updated, but you do not see all the new tags in Shopify. Two rules usually explain it.
Duplicates
If the AI suggested a tag the product already had (compared without case), it is not added again. The product keeps its existing spelling, and no credit is used.
The 20-tag cap
TAGit keeps at most 20 tags per product, with existing tags first. If a product already had 18 tags, only 2 new tags can fit.
How to fix it
- Clean up old tags in Shopify, then re-run the task with Skip previously processed products off
- Or turn on Remove the existing product tags to replace the old tags with fresh AI tags
